Malta an Idyllic Mediterranean Getaway

Welcome to Malta, the smallest and most densely populated southern European country. Malta is located in the Mediterranean Sea 93 km south of Sicily, and 288 km north east of Tunisia. The capital is Valletta, and the largest city is Birkirkara. The two main languages are Maltese and English. Malta is subtropical; it has two seasons, which makes the islands attractive for tourists. Malta is made of three islands, the three islands are know as Malta. Malta is the largest, the smaller island is Gozo, and the smallest in between is Comino.

Malta and its beautiful islands must be explored. It is a mixture of Mediterranean and British culture, history and architecture. If you want to take a trip to Italy and England but you only have to choose one place, chose Malta where you can experience the combination of both places.

There is a little bit of England with the ancient architecture, cars driving on the opposite side of the road, and the sporadic red telephone booths. Then there is a bit of Italy, the people have the look of Italians because of there brown eyes and hair. The streets and the structure of the buildings, and there are Sicilian restaurants that have pizza and pasta, as well as many other restaurants with different cuisines.

While you are in Malta be sure to check out some of the main attractions like the St. Johns Cathedral, the Grand harbor, the breathtaking views of St. Paul’s bay and islands, and also don’t forget to go to the south of the big island and see the Blue Grotto. The little island of Comino has a beautiful blue lagoon, the water is so blue and clear you will not be able to resist taking the fascinating plunge.

Malta has great shopping; you can find anything you want in Valletta from brand name products to locally made products. Also on the south of the Malta is Marsaxlokk where you can go the market everyday, but on Sunday’s is when the locals are there, but be sure to be there early, also in the Marsaxlokk bay you will find traditional colorful boats.

On the islands of Malta you will find many great resorts like the Dolmen Resort Hotel in St. Paul’s Bay, Radisson Blu Hotel in St. Julian’s, Hotel Calypso in Marsalform Gozo, and the spectacular hotel The Phoenicia in Valletta that is in walking distance to Malta’s glorious views and scenery.

So if you want to go to a European and Mediterranean place of sea, sand and sun, Malta is the place to go. Indulge yourself with a magnificent getaway and enjoy not only the history and architecture of Malta, but the crystal clear blue waters and the sandy and rocky beaches. You will think you are on a tropical beach from all the beauty, but your really on the splendid island of Malta in the heart of the Mediterranean.
