Stephenville and Bay St. George a Place of Its Own

If you have never been to Stephenville and Bay St. George area then you are missing out and must go there. It’s not a big bustling metropolis; it’s a place of its own, a place of relaxation and adventure. If walking or basking on a sandy or rocky beach, walking in a beautiful nature trail, or hiking a mountain with a spectacular view from the top, then it is the place to go. It has all that and more. Stephenville and Bay St. George are located in Newfoundland, Canada on the West coast of the island.


There are many great places to stay in the area. In Stephenville there is the Holiday Inn, Dreamcatcher Lodge, Hotel Stephenville, and Keyano Motel and Lounge. Wood N’ B & B in Kippens, The Palace Inn in St. Georges, Henrieta’s Hospitality Home in St. Georges, Pirates Hideaway Inn in Robinson’s, and Inn At The Cape in Cape St.George ( Degrau) . When you are in the area and if you have trouble finding a place all you got to do is ask a friendly local and they will gladly give you the directions.

There are also lots of restaurants to choose from with many style cuisines to satisfy your taste pallet such as fast foods from McDonalds to Pizza Delight and locally owned like Domino’s Pizza House to Lee’s Snack Bar that has Chinese food. If you go to Colman’s Food Center and stop at the deli you can get quick homemade food to go such as Mac and Cheese, Lasagna, Cod au Gratin and more, you can even get a delicious salad that you can choose what you want in it yourself and watch it being made in front of you.
There is great shopping in Stephenville. There is a mall with many great stores, and Main Street has businesses where you can find products from brand names to locally made goods. There are four banks such as The Scotia Bank, BMO, The Royal Bank, and The Credit Union if you have to do banking or get money while visiting. While you’re in Stephenville and area be sure to check out the movie theater, Arts and Culture Centres, which has a Stephenville Theatre Festival every year, the fitness centers, stadium and swimming pool.

Now for the relaxation and adventure, the area has access to sandy or rocky beaches. Have a campfire on the beach or bask in the sun at beautiful Black Bank located in Barchois Brook which is a very popular sandy beach. Go for a hike up Gull Pond Mountain when you reach the top you will be rewarded with a marvelous view of Stephenville and the surrounding area. Go for a nature walk in the Gravels Walking Trail in Port au Port, where you will see majestic scenery and coves with Blue Green sea water. Or if you’re the exploring type you will love to go see the petrified trees at Blanches Brook just of the highway in Stephenville by the local water spring.

Visit beautiful waterfalls at the Hidden Falls in Sheaves Cove. Play a round of golf at Harmon Seaside Links in Stephenville where you can enjoy the fresh sea air or in Black Duck where you have the nature of the woods around you and the babbling sound of the river. If you want to go camping while you’re visiting you can camp in Zensville Park, Barchois Park, Crabbs River Park, or the beautiful cottage and campground country located in Gull Pond by a big clean fresh body of water that is ideal for swimming, boating, and fishing.

There are many other marvelous places in Stephenville and Bay St. George area, you will have to come and see for yourself. Come and unwind by the sea, explore the beauty and nature of the trails and mountains. Get your body, mind and soul rejuvenated from the exquisiteness of the area. When you leave, you will not only have enjoyed your time there but you will leave with friends for life with the people and the nature of Stephenville and Bay S. George.
